Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy

The story is about a young girl named Stephanie who meets a strange man named Skulduggery. Stephanie is a normal girl around 12 years old and Skulduggery is s 100+ year old magic skeleton. Together they try to save the world from impending doom. And the world is not what it might seem to be at first because there is magic and lots of old folklore and old fairy tales are true in the universe of the book.

The book takes place in England and Ireland in towns similar to London and is almost always inside of town except when they are at Stephanie's estate. The author is very good at describing the environment around them. The book is in a time somewhere between the years 2000 to 2010 because they reference lots of semi modern stuff. It is a fantasy adventure book.

The best part of the book is the last third of the book and worst is the first third. This book is not about sending a message but more about entertaining the reader and making up new versions of old tails.

Overall this book was very simple to read and understand. So it would probably fit readers with good vocabulary and reading skills aged 12-16. The ending was good but very predictable. But two things I would like to change is the title, because it does not fit that well with the story. The only thing that the book and the title has in common is one of the characters and it is not even the main, MAIN character. And some of the side characters. Which you can easily get mixed up, because all of them are very bland and similar characters. But the book was overall a very good book
