Red by Libby Gleeson

Mud in her mouth, her nose and her eyes. Mud in her hair and caked on her neck and her arms. Mud filling her shoes and seeping through her clothes.

This book is a about this girl who wakes up after this big cyclone in Sydney that took over 10 000 homes with it. The main characters is on the run outdoors looking after clues. Her mouth filled with mud, her head was just repeating this word, Jaymartin Jaymartin over and over. She wakes up with no memory everything was gone, her memory, where is her family? She doesn’t know who she is, or where she is. But she is left with a clue, she having a mysterious locket around her neck and repeating the word Jaymartin over and over. But she doesn’t wake up alone. His boy Peri helped her and gives her the nickname Red, after her ginger coloured hair. As Reds memories slowly returns, she relies that the only thing that treats her survival Isn’t just the cyclone anymore.

Red is a small girl with red hair, blue eyes and her age is around fifteen. Red is looking for her family together with Peri. Peri is a boy who is around the same age as Red. Peri seems tall with dark hair and is skinny because of his history. Their relationship to each other has changed over the time. At first Peri was kinda mean to Red and stupid explained her a lot, because of her amnesia. But longer in the story they grow on each other and get this special bond.

The message behind the book is about reality I think. That means that this happens, cyclone destroy peoples life. It’s hard for the people that never been through anything this awful.

The book took place in Australia the year the book was made. The book was first published 2012. This book is based on true story’s. A cyclone is a large-scale, atmospheric wind-and-pressure system. The latest cyclone in Australia was 2017. 41 humans died and it costed $15 million in damages.
This book is based on the genres mystery, drama and thriller.

This book was very exciting and filled with adventure. I liked how the story had many different twists and turns. And I think that adventure-lovers will enjoy! I recommend all ages. I like the book more I read, because I find it pretty hard in the beginning. I struggled with the content and what really happened, but the more I read the more I understood. My tip is not to give up before you get the book. Read the book to follow Reds journey.

A girl in 9th grade.
