In 2014 his short novel “Partners in crime” won the Coventry inspiration book award.

The book is set in Gardle Head.

The main character in this book is Dillon, he is 14 years old and he’s smart and shy. Robbie is 10 years old and he’s positive and impulsive. The dad had been in jail and he’s rotten.

It’s a book about two young boys when they were going to go with their dad on a trip. These two boys went with their dad who is mentally unstable. Before their dad went to jail he had been a serviceman.

Everything began when Robbie and Dillon were home alone and Robbie received a phone call. The phone call was from their dad that they hadn’t seen for two years. Their father told them that he had asked their mother about all of this and she had said okay. Robbie felt excited about the trip, but Dillon was a little bit suspicious. Their father went home to them and after a while and a little bit of talking Dillon decided to go with him, but he left a note on his bed just in case if something would happen.

They stopped at a motorway service station and there Dillon decided to call their mum’s new boyfriend, Andy, because he couldn’t call their mother because she left her phone at home that day and Dillon had never got her office number. When their dad saw that Dillon had called Andy he took his phone and removed the battery and the sim-card from the mobile.

Later they arrived to Gardle Head. When they arrived they set up a camp near a cliff top. Dillon had the feeling all the time that their dad had something stupid on his mind. Dillon knew that dad had a weapon in the back of the car.

We chose this book because Björn (our librarian) talked about it on a lesson, and when he talked about it then both of us felt that this is an interesting book. We gave this book a chance. We thought the book was a little bit emotionally hard to read, how their dad treated his sons. Everything in this book is a little bit special to read because we don’t think that any child should be treated like this. One thing that made us feel this more is that the dad came out from jail and then did this in front of his sons.

The language is easy and we think that this book can be read by young adults from around 11 years. It’s not that many difficult words in this book and that makes this book more easy to read, because it’s more fun to read a book in English when you understand what you read. We recommend this book to people who like books that are about young people and their parents. If you like to read books that include hard feelings and bad relationships between parents and children.

We give this book 7/10 stars, because like we said this book is emotionally hard, but it's a good plot.

Made by two girls in year nine.
