Elevrecension: On the edge

On the edge by Nigel Hinton

This book is written by Nigel Hinton and is a teenage fiction with some thriller aspects and was published on the 15th of January in 2014. On the edge is a standalone book and is not a part of any series. The book was published by Barrington Stoke in 2014.

On the edge is about two children, Robbie and Dillon. Dillon is 15 years old and Robbie is 10 years old. Dillon is brave, caring but also sceptical which is apparent when he tells us his thoughts about the trip. Robbie is young so he does not understand things the way Dillon does. Robbie is easily convinced which is also shown in the book when their dad calls them and asks them to go on a trip.

The book is about two children that experienced their dad beating their mum in the past and he was sentenced to jail for it. A long time after that they get a call from him telling them to prepare for a trip. They never thought that they would see their dad again but that changed. A few minutes after the call their dad showed up and told them to prepare because they were going on a trip to a place close to the ocean where they would stay for approximately three days. He convinced them that he got permission from their mom to take them on a trip for three days but the real question here is: Was he really allowed to?

The reason to why we chose this book was because we liked where the story of the book was heading when we heard about it and we gave it a shot which we don't regret. We expected it to be a typical thriller book and it turned out to be just that but with some real life problems put into it.

One thing we liked about the book is that it is built on a real life problem which makes this book much more realistic. This book could also be relatable to some people that have experienced that problem. That results in making the person reading it aware that the problem exists and that it should be taken serious because without treatment it can turn into something that can cause terrible stuff to happen.

Another thing we liked about the book is that it is dyslexia friendly which gives people who have dyslexia the opportunity to read this book and enjoy it.

One thing we didn't like about the book was that the plot was easily predictable which only made this book drawn out till the main plot actually happened which we and many others had foreseen before it even happened.

We recommend this book to people from 12 years old and up. We also recommend this book to people who aren't used to reading that much or don't have much time, because this is a short story and is easy to read in a short period of time.
