Elevrecension: Never, never

Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarry Fisher

Never Never is a fiction book that was published in 2015. It’s the first part of three in the series ”Never Never” and it’s written by two authors named Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher.

Colleen Hoover is a thirty eight year old author, born in Sulphur Spring, Texas, but grew up in Saltillo in Texas. Now she has two sons with her husband of eighteen years, Heath Hoover. She writes a lot of young adult fiction but also New adult fiction. In 2012 she published her first book called Slammed, and since then all of her books have become New York Times best seller books.

Tarryn Fisher is a Johannesburg born South African author. She’s currently living in Seattle, Washington with her husband and their two children. Tarryn writes New adult novels and she published her first book in 2013 called Dirty Red. Since then she has released nine other novels. In 2015 she got nominated for best mystery and thriller at the Goodreads Choice Awards, with her book Marrow, but unfortunately she didn’t win.

This book is written from two perspectives, Charlie and Silas. With every other chapter from Charlie’s point of view and the rest from Silas.

The book is about the teen couple Charlie and Silas. To start of from Charlie's perspective, she’s in a classroom in school and she has no idea what’s going on. She doesn’t know who she is and where she is. But she tries to act normal, even though she doesn’t know what’s happening with her. The same day she walks in to the canteen and finds out that she has a boyfriend, Silas, who she has no idea who he is. But when she sees him, she notices that he looks a bit off and confused, just like her.

When I got to read from Silas perspective, it turns out that he doesn’t know who he is and where he is ether. So Charlie and Silas tries to figure out who they are and why they can’t remember anything, together. But the problem is that after every forty eight hour they forget about everything that they just got to know about. Which makes everything much harder for them. That is also the reason to why they everyday find notes that are signed from Charlie and Silas, and addressed to Charlie and Silas. Saying something like “it’s happening again” or “we’re forgetting again” and so on. The book ended with a cliffhanger. Which made me want to read the next one, just to know what happens, and to see if they ever really figures their problem out.

Both Charlie and Silas are seventeen year old high school teens, and as they lose their memory I feel like they start to act like each other. They are both shy and very uncertain, due to the fact that they don’t really know each other or anything at all. But as they get to know each other, their old selves and their old lives, they get the picture that they are one of the popular couples in high school. A couple that bullies others and are not afraid of anything specific.

Silas lives with his parents, his little brother and their housekeeper. They are more like the ”rich” family, that lives in a beautiful house. Charlie on the other hand, lives with her mom (who is an alcoholic) and her little sister, in a crappy house, while her dad is in prison.

None of them has a good relationship with their families. They don’t remember anything about them, not even their names. Charlie and Silas are more attached to each other. They don’t really have a choice, since no one except them knows about their memory loss.

The book takes place in present and the storys location remains unmentioned throughout the book. But I feel like it’s somewhere in the US, due to Charlie’s and Silas names that are very American. The authors both live and grew up in the US, which also is why I assume that’s where the book is taking place.

Never Never has one hundred and fifty pages. There are not a lot of difficult words in it, which makes it easy to read. It’s a fiction, since it’s not normal that two people, at the same time, forget about each other and everything else in their lives, over and over again. It’s also a mystery book, because they, as well as me, don’t know why they lost their memory.

One of my friends recommended this book to me, because she liked the authors. So I decided to read it to see if she was right, which I really think she was.
I usually don’t like books that aren’t reality based, but I liked this book a lot. Probably because it is a little mystery in it, which I like, that’s what makes it exciting.

In the story, Silas family and Charlie’s family are in some kind of fight. That I didn’t get as much information about as I wish I had gotten. I want to know more about that in the next book, Never Never part two.

I think that the risk of youths and adults to like the book is very slim. Because of the book being unrealistic and stuff not being likely to happen in real life. So I would recommend this book to teens that likes mystery.

This book gets five of five stars from me. I usually don’t like books that ends with a cliffhanger, especially when the book doesn’t even have a sequel yet. But in this case it doesn’t matter, since there is already a second and a third book.
