Elevrecension: Angel of Venice

Angel of Venice by Mary Hoffman

The book is an adventure book, because they are traveling around with a ship on their way to war. It was first published in 2014. The book is not included in a series and the book have 95 sides.

Luca is the main character and he is a sixteen year old boy. Luca works at the shipyard with collecting wood shavings from the older workers and carries the wood shaving to the blacksmiths. He lives in a poor family with his mom, dad and two older brothers.

Angelina is sixteen years old and the big love in Luca`s life. Angelina is in a rich family that lives in the rich part of the city. Her brother doesn't like Luca, but Angelina and Luca are trying to meet anyway.

Nico is Luca ́s best friend is the same age as Luca, that will be sixteen, he works at the same place as Nico.

This story takes place in Italy in the city of Venice and on a ship in the Mediterranean. The weather seems to be quiet nice during the book and I think it is summer because as an example the fruit grows and Luca is stealing fruit from other people to feed himself.

The book starts with Luca working on the shipyard. This is the part when we get to know Luca. He is getting introduced slowly during the beginning of the book. One day Luca meets a girl named Angelina and falls in love. Now during the coming pages Luca is just dreaming about her and trying to impress her. After a while Luca is stealing a peach from a garden and gets caught and it turns out to be Angelina’s older brother he was stealing from. So now Angelina’s family doesn’t like Luca because they think he’s a thief. So in desperate chance of keeping Angelina Luca is boarding a ship that is going to war. The boat is one day leaving and heading for the mighty Ottomans empire. After just a short period of time Luca regrets hes choise to board the warship

We think the book is pretty good, because things happened the whole time in the book, like he was chased by one person. We chose this book because it seemed to be the best and the most exciting of our choices when we looked at it. The back side of the book was good too and it clearly was an exciting book with a lot of excitement and chills.

It was a quiet easy book that has been written in an easy English with some harder words so it is quiet easy to understand for both older and younger persons. But apart from the language it is overall an easy book so it was maybe a too easy book for us, so we recommend this book for children between ten and fourteen years old. This book is also tested and confirmed to be a good book for people with dyslexia.

So over all we give this book seven out of ten because we thinks that the ending of the book was fast and confusing, and it was hard to keep up with the story and the things that happened sometimes. Our expectations of the book were that it would be an adventure book with a lot of excitement and it really turned out to have that. Maybe a bit too easy, but apart from that a really good book.
